like fertile soils,plentiful rainfall and ample sunshine,India produces
various types of tobacco to meet the needs of discerning customers.currently,indian
tobacco is exported to more than 80 countries spread over in all continents.World
Top Multinational cigarette top companies like SEITA,BAT,PHILIPMORRIS,
RJREYNOLDS,ROTHMANS,IMPERIALS,REEMTSMA etc and many government monopoly
companies all over the world are importing Indian Tobacco either directly or indirectly.
Tobacco sector provides about 20 million jobs in agricultural
operations including cultivation,nurseries,processing,curing, manufacturing
and distribution of tobacco products etc in rural and urban areas.
Tobacco as asingle commodity is
the fourth leading revenue earner for the union government contributing
about 10% of total excise collection and nearly 6.5% of agriexports from
india,corresponding to Rs.5000 crores respectively in 1999-2000.
On average, India exports about
100 million kg of tobacco leaf a year, making it the worlds sixth largest
exporter, with a 5% share of the world market. This may sound like a comparatively
